On a recent trip to Paris in June, we thought we would make the most out of a Hilton Amex offer and decided to stay at the Hilton Paris Opera. See below for our Hilton Paris Opera Review:
Location: The hotel is located in the 8th arrondissement of Paris and is close to the border of the 9th arrondissement which is where the Paris Opera is located. The Hilton Paris Opera sits next to the Saint Lazare train station providing quick transport links throughout the city with 4 metro lines and access to overground trains. There is also a local RER station within 5 minutes walk making the location very accessible.
Check In: As you walk into the building you are greeted by a very grand entrance and steps up to the check in desks. The concierge and porters are found just before the steps to the right. The staff on the check desks were friendly and acknowledged our Gold Hilton Honors status. One thing to be aware of at the Hilton Paris Opera is that check in is later than most with a 4pm check in time. Luckily, our room was available when we arrived at 3pm so were able to head straight to the room. Check out time is 11am.
A couple of days before we were due to arrive at the hotel I had received an email from Hilton Paris Reservations asking me to pay a deposit ahead of arrival, whilst the email seemed genuine it felt uneasy to provide card details in such manner so I ignored it and nothing was ever mentioned of it.
Room: We had booked a Deluxe Room which was on the 5th floor and whilst we were not upgraded the room was very sizeable for Paris. It was at the back of the building facing onto the train station so did not have the most interesting of views. The room featured a good size desk under the TV as well as a single armchair and side table.
The bedsides featured a European plug socket and two USB ports on each side. There was an open facing wardrobe to the right at you come in which featured a mini ironing board and iron also. Bathrobes were provided in separate bags within a drawer under the wardrobe.
Interestingly, next to the bed was a steel flask and two paper cups. As part of the Hilton Paris Opera’s sustainability efforts they do not provide any bottled water but a communal Brita filter water machine next to elevators on each floor. The tea and coffee facilities are as expected in a large Hilton hotel with only instant coffee sachets available. There is no minibar so the fridge was empty and could be used for your own items.
Bathroom: In keeping with the room, the bathroom was a good size and seemed relatively fresh. There is a single basin with ample mirror coverage and a good size shower. Toiletries were fixed to the wall and the standard Hilton Crabtree & Evelyn products.
Breakfast: Breakfast is located on the mezzanine floor and is predominantly a buffet with a mix of hot and cold items. There was also a good selection of breads, cereals, fruits and pastries. A single coffee machine was available which at busy times I could see it getting quite busy.
There is no station where you can watch your eggs be cooked in front of you but if you ask a waiter they are able to provide fried eggs and omelettes on demand.
Conclusion: The Hilton Paris Opera is a good hotel with a solid offering overall. The rooms are a good size considering you are in Paris and the service is friendly. The building entrance is very impressive as is the bar area in the inner courtyard providing a very Parisian feel. Whilst the location is not on the doorstep of key Paris attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and Arc de Triomphe, it is very well connected via public transport.
Booking: Given our Hilton Honors Gold status we booked the hotel direct on the Hilton website to ensure we benefit from free breakfast and potential for upgrades.
